Hurricane Fluttershy Pre-Montage by The-Intelligentleman Hurricane Fluttershy Pre-Montage by The-Intelligentleman
This is the most complex vector I've ever done. There is about 500 nodes in the central tree alone. However, I learned a lot about gradients in this vector project. If you find major inaccuracies, please warn me and I'll do my best to fix them.
Total Build Time: About 12 hours
SVG: db.tt/Y42LYCzu

EDIT: Fixed the title. Just realized that I got the screenshot before the montage.

EDIT: Sweet jeebus, I made Daily Deviation.

Thanks for all the favs and comments. For all of you wondering what program I used, I use Inkscape for all my vectors.

EDIT: I decided to make a Google Chrome theme based off this. db.tt/LZZMDsNh for anyone interested.

I'm rather new to digital art, but I'm really trying to improve. Would you mind telling me what vector art is? I know my drawing software can do it, but I'm not sure what it does or how to use it. Your art is absolutely fabulous by the way!

If you're using photoshop, it's not really meant for vectors. If you have it, use Illustrator. If not Inkscape is free, and my preffered vectoring program.

Photoshop isn't technically a vectoring program. Inkscape is free and really easy to use. A few tips: When you start it up press SHIFT+CTRL+F and SHIFT+CTRL+L.

Yes, it took me 12 hours to place, curve, color and add gradients to approximately 4000 nodes based off a 1280x720 screenshot, then export it to a 17,778 x 10,000 image with no quality degradation whatsoever. I'm sorry you're disappointed. Vectors take a long time to do.

As far as tools and functionality go, they're pretty much the same. Knowing Adobe, Illustrator probably has a few more bells and whistles and an army of programmers. Inkscape is Open Source and uses SVG as a standard save format, which can be opened by (correct me if I'm wrong) all vectoring programs. Since Inkscape is Open Source, it has all the programmers of the world contributing to and improving it.

It's also a matter of preference. I use Inkscape for the obvious reason of "It's free", but also because I'm used to using GIMP, which has a similar interface. I don't know if I would like Illustrator because I'm so used to Inkscape. If you want to know more, get Inkscape for yourself and mess around with it. Here's a link to their site [link] .

Is it me or does this not deserve a DD? It's just a vector, its not like you made this all entirely. You've technically traced from another image :/

It isn't the fact that it is tracing..If it is already done whether its been done in vector form doesn't change the fact that it was the same exact shot/scene with nothing done to it. Sure vector takes a while to do, but that doesn't make it right. I'm not dissing his vector cuz its really good, but anything that has been taken straight from a shot or scene without any changes isn't something to get a DD for.

Well, it isn't like he choose for it to be a DD. It just did. Probably not the first vector to be a DD, probably won't be the last.

I agree he didn't choose it to be, but as for you vector comment it has nothing to do with something being vector based. Vector is just a different way of illustrating art, it isn't like all vectors are a copy of something. Many pieces done in vector are completely original, creative, and very well done. I agree that this was well done, but as the people in charge of making something a DD they shouldn't just click any random thing just for the hell of giving out daily deviations. A DD was originally DAs way of showing appreciation for having an extraordinary piece, but lately I have seen very simple or very uncreative things getting DDs.

Well, most of them don't just randomly click a Deviation and it become a DD. Sure, it may appear they don't quite survey the things they give DD's to properly (Or maybe that is the case), but sometimes it just depends I suppose. A DD still is dA's way of showing appreciation, though sometimes I do agree some things don't look like they really need a DD. I've noticed some people who recieve DDs aren't very well known artists, which is probably something that also influences the DDs. I agree though on your point. DDs are just DDs though. It's not really up to the community on what piece of art becomes a DD, except for the suggesters ideas. People have different opinions though, that's what makes art interesting.
